Podo Craft’s Wood Material 101

Good day, my darlings. How are you doing? I am sure a lot of people are feeling over the moon now that the interstate travel restriction has been lifted since in the middle of October. I am overwhelmed and relieved too especially with the fact that children that are far away from their parents are finally allowed to return to their hometown to meet their family that they have been missing a lot. I actually watched a few videos on the net where family members finally reunited after a very long time-even almost a year- and that really touched my heart that I ended up crying, definitely a happy crying though.

Some of you must also have come out with exciting year end vacation plans. Yeay, time to de-stress! Wherever you are going to, please please please be safe. Hmm for those who still doesn’t have any plan, like me, I guess it is what it is for now. Let’s carry on with business or working for the time being.

Speaking of business, well as you might know PODO CRAFT offers custom-tailored products. We aim to create endless possibilities with customizable products. By saying so, we are always open to help to custom-built items to meet buyers’ specific needs. We believe this will become a great way to earn your loyalty and stand out from our competitors.

When we talk about customization, the first thing that come to mind is the variety of materials. So today, I am thinking about introducing the materials that we offer. I’d say 95% of our products are made up of wood material. But you might wonder what kind of wood material that are available at PODO CRAFT.

SOLID WOOD

Solid wood is lumber that has been milled directly from trees. Unlike engineered wood, which is composed of wood fibers that are held together with adhesives, solid wood contains wood fibers throughout the piece of lumber. Let’s look at the common solid wood used by PODO CRAFT.

1. RUBBER WOOD-18MM

PODO CRAFT offers a high-quality grade rubberwood. Rubberwood is a light-colored medium-density tropical hardwood obtained from the Pará rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis), usually from trees grown in rubber plantations. Rubberwood is commonly advertised as an “environmentally friendly” wood, as it makes use of plantation trees that have already served a useful function. One of the items that is made from rubber wood is the Arc Shelf.

2. MAPLE WOOD-10MM UP To 18MM

Maple is among the favorite hardwood choices for furniture building. Maple is generally considered to be strong, durable, and pretty when properly finished. Maple wood is commonly used in high-end furniture and flooring. Because of its durability and strength, maple wood is suitable to be used in kitchen cabinetry and accessories. Maple is affordable and ultra-durable. It can take a beating and look great for years. Because it takes dark stains well, maple is often stained to mimic a pricier wood, like cherry or mahogany

3. PINE WOOD-10MM UP To 18MM

Pine trees are considered a softwood tree, which means the wood is softer than hardwood varieties. It is malleable and easy to work with making it a popular option for DIY projects. Pine is light in color, usually with a creamy white look, although the specific shade can vary somewhat. Some varieties produce a very white color. Others lean toward a yellowish look. The light color makes pine easy to stain to achieve nearly any color you want, or you can simply use a clear coat to protect the wood while letting the natural light color take center stage. Pine also has a prominent grain with knots darker than the wood itself, which gives it a distinct look.

4. BEECH WOOD-10MM UP To 18MM

Beech is a hard, strong and heavy wood. It has a fine, dense grain and a uniform texture. Beech wood is very light in color and has a high impact resistance. Its smooth surface makes it an excellent wood for polishing.

PLYWOOD

Plywood on the other hand is made up of sheets that have been artificially glued together and if the ‘Glue shear strength’ is low, then the individual plies can come apart. This depends on the quality of the plywood though. PODO CRAFT offers both standard and premium quality plywood.

1. STANDARD PLYWOOD- 3MM & 5MM

Standard plywood is one of the most common types of plywood. PODO DRAFT has about 2- to 3-millimeters and up to 5-millimeters thick plywood. They are generally used for indoors cabinetry and accessories, since it looks more decorative than thicker plywood boards.

2. PREMIUM PLYWOOD-3MM

A-grade plywood that features a smooth, sanded surface without knots. Any wood defects have been repaired with synthetic filler, so the veneer can be painted. A-grade plywood is ideal for furniture or cabinet doors. Below are the options for premium plywood that PODO CRAFT has in store.

Semangkuk Plywood. Made from tree called Kembang Semangkok. It has a beautiful grain and smooth finishing. We absolutely love this wood. It is our primary raw stock, we love its texture, so easy to blend in to all of our design.

Maple Plywood. Yes we also have maple plywood. Maple wood enjoys wide popularity among woodworkers and furniture makers because of its light, creamy color, and smooth grain pattern. The color ranges from nearly white, to an off-white cream color, sometimes with a reddish or golden hue.

Nyatoh Plywood. Nyatoh is The Standard Malaysian Name for the light and reddish timber of the family Sapotaceae. Nyatoh Plywood are usually varnished to reserve the natural woodgrain design.

Walnut Plywood. These walnut plywood panels offer excellent strength, dimensional stability, and screw holding ability. We offer dark color walnut plywood that has an excellent and straight grain, which is a bit abrasive in texture. It sometimes features swellings or some irregularities, perhaps including some waves or curls.

Now that you know all wood materials that are commonly used at PODO CRAFT, do you have your favorite choice in mind yet? Of course, knowing only the type of materials that PODO CRAFT offer is not enough. You need to also understand the components of wood strength, such as hardness, density, compression strength, bending strength (or Modulus of Rupture), and specific gravity which will help you choose among the many options you might encounter for a project.

We would like again, echo that at PODO CRAFT, we always offering endless option to customization on our products. We will ensure while discussing with our staff, we will advise you the varieties, classifications, and grades that make some woods better than others and assure you will be satisfied with your desired project outcome.
